Fond Farewell

After thirty-eight years at the helm of one Lancashire’s most successful BMW and MINI dealerships, Chairman, Derek Woodman has decided to retire.

Derek entered the world of automotives after a flourishing career in motorcycling. Having raced in over 30 TT events he bought his first garage in 1969, a petrol forecourt and car showroom on Bloomfield Road in Blackpool, Lancashire. In 1972 Derek was awarded the BMW Franchise, moving to a specially built showroom on Vicarage Lane in 1986. Twenty years later and now with a MINI Franchise, Derek moved to their current premises on Whitehills Business Park

It wasn’t an easy decision for Derek to make after 38 years in the BMW network but he is delighted with his choice of new owners for the business, the Lloyd Motor Group. Managed by the Lloyd family, the dealership will still retain the family values and provision of exemplary customer service that Derek has always been such an advocate of.

Bryan Lloyd said, “We are thrilled to have purchased the Derek Woodman BMW & MINI dealership. We’d like to assure all of Derek’s customers that they will receive the same exceptional service that Derek is synonymous with for over the last 38 years and in view of this, we will be keeping the name the same. The benefits of course for the customer include a greater choice of stock to choose from when purchasing their next car. I’d like to wish Derek all the best for his retirement.”

Derek also had a few parting words to say, “It has been a great pleasure to work with the team at Derek Woodman’s, some who have worked with me for over thirty years. And I’d like to thank the many customers who return year after year to the business and offer my reassurances that the Lloyd Motor Group will be exceptional custodians of the business.”

Lloyd Motors began 30 years ago with just one dealership in Cockermouth. That dealership is still alive and well today, but since that time it has been joined by nine others representing some of the World's leading prestige manufacturers. The company continues to be owned and managed by the Lloyd family and now employs nearly 500 people, all dedicated to providing the unique standards of service and attention to detail on which it has built its reputation.
