Collection for Trinity Hospice proves great success!

Here at Derek Wodman, we recently held a clothing and bric-a-brac collection on behalf of Trinity Hospice after we heard about their SOS (Save Our Shops) appeal. The shops were suffering as much as any other business in the recession and were in short supply of good quality items to sell. Knowing the generosity of its staff and customers, Derek Woodman put out a plea requesting donations and utilising the showroom as a collection point to a resounding success.

We had collected so much we needed our large parts van to transport all the goods to the Trinity Hospice shop on Highfield Road! Here we were met by Jane Molyneux, Fundraising and Marketing Manager, Amanda Bell, Shop Manager and Joan Pennington, shop volunteer.

“The donation of goods from Derek Woodman staff and customers was fabulous and really will boost our somewhat depleted stocks” said Jane. “The quality of the clothes was also wonderful which means we can get a premium price; it really was a great gesture. Amanda, thought all her Christmas’s had come at once as the stock transformed the shop into a real Aladdin’s cave.”

“Trinity Hospice currently has 10 hospice shops all of which rely on donated goods. These goods are then resold and all profits go directly to the hospice. Not only do the shops raise much needed funds but they also help to put our name on the high street, keeping awareness high.”

“Our shops are managed by a part time shop manager and run by volunteers” continued Jane. “We are constantly looking for quality goods, furniture, bric-a-brac and clothing and will collect from homes if necessary.”

“Volunteers are essential for the day to day running of the shops and we certainly couldn’t operate without them. With over 700 volunteers here at Trinity the service is very reliant on them. Volunteers work across the entire family of services and provide a valuable resource. It could be reception duties, complementary therapy, kitchen assistants or driving, these are just some of the jobs that volunteers help with.”

If you are interested in volunteering at Trinity Hospice simply call Diane or Helen on 01253 358881 and ask for the volunteer co-ordinators.

We hope to collect for the Trinity Hospice shops again, details will be posted on our website and communicate in our newsletter. To be added to our mailing list, please click here.
